Rant it, Rave it...

As of late I've been feeling a little out of touch with my musical side having just completed my Information Technology degree and moving into an apartment where I can't really play any of my instruments.  Music was my outlet, something I ran to when I was upset, when I needed to think and when I was simply bored.  I've been coming home from work grumpy every night and leave for work grumpy every morning.

Recently, thanks to a tweet I discovered on Twitter I've had the pleasure of getting to listen to and comment on new music artists and their work.  http://www.slicethepie.com/ has been a great outlet for after work relaxation.  I get to listen to some very talented individuals and also get to write responses to their work with ideas on how they could improve and also by complementing what sounds good.  Since Monday, I've logged on and rated 27 different artists and songs.  I am closing in on a 90% accuracy in my ratings with other individuals which in turn is bringing in a little extra money for me as well.

What exactly do you mean rate music?

If you're interested, you should definatly check it out.  Create a profile, and start scouting!  It's easy, it's fun and it helps other individuals in the music community.  All you have to do is listen to their music, and write at least a 100 word response.  Take a peak at some of my ratings:

The Vegitarians- "(Carry On) River of Life-Radio"

I must say- I absolutley LOVE the trumpet in this song. It definatly adds the "icing to the cake." The choice to have the trumpet muted the way it is fits perfectly- as say a cup mute would not give the horn the sound fitting for this song. The instrumental with the guitars/bass/drums is pleasing to the ear and definatly great to listen to. The vocals are also strong and on point. The vocal layering in the chorus of the song also is great- the layers aren't overwhelming and don't take away from the lead vocalist. Great job!

Unknown Artist- Unknown Track

Very nice job with the music track- guitars, bass, drums etc. and very nice voice, however, when the two are meshed together I am having a bit of a hard time. The vocals either need to be a bit stronger, or the music track needs toned down just a bit. There are spots in the song where I have trouble hearing/understanding the vocalist because the guitar/drums are over playing him. This also tends to happen when the vocalist is in the higher vocal range. I'm not sure if adding another melody in there that is a little higher- say- around the vocalist's pitch if it would help in bringing more power to the vocals, but something needs to help boost them and make them a little more powerful.

Thanks for reading!!!! Stay tuned!!!
